Biography

Narla Chiranjeevi was born on 1 May 1925 in Katru village, Gannavaram taluk, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. Though he did not pursue extensive formal education, he mastered Telugu, Sanskrit, and Hindi, which shaped his literary voice. His early career included work at Vijayawada Akashavani (All India Radio) in 1949–50, where he honed his skills in storytelling and performance.

Chiranjeevi became a prominent figure in the progressive writers’ movement and actively participated in communist and social reform initiatives. His writings often reflected themes of equality, justice, and cultural awakening. He contributed to the Visalaandhra daily newspaper, where he ran a popular children’s column titled Chinnari Lokam.

As a creative writer, he produced poetry collections such as Erragulabi, Telugu Poolu, and Karra-Cheppulu. His play Bhagyanagaram gained wide recognition, while his work in cinema included writing scripts and lyrics. Notably, he penned songs for films like Aaradhana (1962), showcasing his versatility across mediums.
