Naseeruddin Shah, born on 1950-07-20 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, India, is one of India’s most respected actors and directors. Fondly called Naseer, he is a pioneer of Indian parallel cinema and has also starred in international productions. He studied at Aligarh Muslim University, the National School of Drama, and the Film and Television Institute of India, honing his craft before debuting in Nishant (1975). Over his career, he has won three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards, and the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his contributions to cinema.
Shah is admired for his versatility, moving seamlessly between mainstream films, art-house projects, and theater. He directed Yun Hota To Kya Hota (2006) and remains active in stage productions. Married to actress Ratna Pathak Shah since 1982, he is the father of actors Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah.
