Biography

Prithviraj Sukumaran is one of the prominent actors, producers and filmmakers in the Indian film industry, particularly known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He was born on October 16, 1982, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to veteran actors Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran. Growing up in a family connected to cinema had a significant influence on his early exposure to the entertainment industry. His elder brother, Indrajith Sukumaran, is also an established actor.

 

Prithviraj's education took place across Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He studied at several schools, including Shrine Vailankanni Senior Secondary School in Chennai, St. Joseph's Boys' Higher Secondary School in Coonoor, Sainik School Kazhakoottam and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. He later pursued a bachelor's degree in Information Technology at the University of Tasmania in Australia. While studying, he received an opportunity to act in a Malayalam film, which eventually changed the direction of his career.

 

Director Fazil introduced Prithviraj to filmmaker Ranjith, who cast him in Nandanam. The 2002 film became his acting breakthrough and established him as a young talent in Malayalam cinema. He subsequently appeared in a wide range of films and gradually built a reputation for taking on diverse and challenging roles.

Over the years, Prithviraj expanded his career beyond acting. He became a playback singer and producer and eventually entered filmmaking as a director. His directorial debut came with Lucifer in 2019, starring Mohanlal. The film became a major success and established Prithviraj as a filmmaker capable of handling large-scale commercial cinema.

 

He has also worked outside Malayalam cinema, appearing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi-language projects. His Hindi debut was Aiyyaa in 2012.Prithviraj is married to journalist and producer Supriya Menon. The couple married on April 25, 2011, and have a daughter, Alankrita. His career has continued to expand across acting, production and direction, making him one of the better-known multi-hyphenate personalities in contemporary South Indian cinema.
