Biography

R. Madhavan began his career in television before making his film debut in Alaipayuthey (2000), which instantly made him a household name in Tamil cinema. His Bollywood breakthrough came with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (2001), a film that remains a cult favorite. Over the years, he has delivered memorable performances in films like Rang De Basanti (2006), Guru (2007), 3 Idiots (2009), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), and Vikram Vedha (2017). His versatility has allowed him to seamlessly transition between romantic leads, intense dramatic roles, and action-oriented characters.

Beyond acting, Madhavan has also directed and produced films, most notably Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022), which earned critical acclaim and showcased his skills behind the camera. In September 2023, he was appointed President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, reflecting his influence in the industry. His journey from a middle-class Tamil Brahmin background to becoming one of India’s most respected actors is a testament to his talent, perseverance, and charm.
