His birth name is Selvaraj Justin Pandian, later changed to S. J. Suryah.
He studied Physics at Loyola College, Chennai.
Before entering films, he worked odd jobs such as hotel steward and cashier.
He is also known by the moniker Nadippu Arakkan.
He has been active in the industry since 1988.
