Sanya Malhotra

Sanya Malhotra was born and raised in Delhi, India. She had a keen interest in dance from a young age and was trained in ballet. She also participated in various dance competitions during her school days. After completing her schooling in Delhi, Sanya pursued a degree in B.Com (Hons) from Gargi College, University of Delhi. Her academic pursuits eventually led her to enroll in a dance academy in Mumbai, where she developed her skills in contemporary dance. Sanya Malhotra's career in the entertainment industry began when she attended a dance workshop conducted by the renowned choreographer Shiamak Davar. This workshop eventually led her to audition for a role in the Bollywood film "Dangal." Sanya Malhotra, the Indian actress celebrated for her portrayal of the gold-medal-winning wrestler Babita Kumari Phogat in the blockbuster "Dangal," embarked on her acting journey in 2016. After a brief hiatus, she returned to the silver screen in 2018 with the movie "Pataakha," directed by the critically acclaimed Vishal Bhardwaj.

The film, based on Charan Singh Pathik's short story "Do Behenen," revolves around the tumultuous relationship between two sisters in Rajasthan. In the same year, she took on a lead role opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in "Badhaai Ho," a heartwarming coming-of-age tale that explores the unexpected pregnancy of an elderly couple in their late 40s. Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, the film was a resounding success. Sanya's 2019 saw her in Ritesh Batra's "Photograph," where she starred alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a story set in Mumbai that delves into the life of a photographer and his journey. In 2020, she graced the screen in the Amazon Original "Shakuntala Devi," a biographical drama about the renowned mathematician Shakuntala Devi, and also joined the ensemble cast of Anurag Basu's anthology film "Ludo." Her acting prowess continued to shine in 2021 with releases including "Pagglait," "Meenakshi Sundereshwar," and "Love Hostel," showcasing her remarkable versatility as an actress. Sanya Malhotra's career has been characterized by her ability to take on diverse roles in various genres, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the Indian film industry.
