Biography

Sathyaraj began his career in the late 1970s, initially portraying antagonistic roles that quickly made him a popular villain in Tamil cinema. His cultured and flamboyant villainous portrayals won audiences over, eventually paving the way for him to transition into lead roles. Films like Vedham Pudhithu (1987), Nadigan (1990), and Amaidhipadai (1994) showcased his ability to carry films as a protagonist, earning him critical acclaim and commercial success.

In addition to acting, Sathyaraj has worked as a producer, director, and media personality, contributing significantly to the Tamil film industry. His portrayal of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy in Periyar (2007) and Kattappa in Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) brought him national and international recognition. He has received three Filmfare Awards South and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, cementing his legacy as one of the most respected actors in Indian cinema.
