Biography

Tabu, born Tabassum Fatima Hashmi on 1971-11-04 in Hyderabad, is one of India’s most acclaimed actresses, known for her versatility across mainstream and independent cinema. She has won two National Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards, and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2011.

Tabu began her acting career as a child artist in Hum Naujawan (1985) and made her debut as a lead actress in Pehla Pehla Pyar (1994). She rose to prominence with Vijaypath (1994), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Over the years, she has delivered powerful performances in films like Maachis, Astitva, Chandni Bar, Haider, Andhadhun, and Drishyam. Known for portraying complex characters, she has balanced commercial success with critically acclaimed roles. Tabu has also worked in international projects such as Mira Nair’s The Namesake (2006) and Ang Lee’s Life of Pi (2012).
