Tobias Simpson Menzies, born on March 7, 1974, in Hammersmith, London, is an acclaimed English actor known for his versatility across stage, television, and film. Educated at Frensham Heights School and Stratford-upon-Avon College, he later trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating in 1998.

Menzies began his career in British television, appearing in series such as Casualty and Midsomer Murders. His breakout role came as Marcus Junius Brutus in HBO’s Rome (2005–2007), where he impressed audiences with his nuanced portrayal of the Roman statesman. He further gained international recognition for his dual roles as Frank Randall and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in Outlander (2014–2019), earning a Golden Globe nomination.

In 2019, Menzies took on the role of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in seasons three and four of Netflix’s The Crown. His performance won him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, solidifying his reputation as one of Britain’s finest actors.
