Biography
Anupam Kher is a veteran Indian actor, director, and producer known for his remarkable contributions to Hindi cinema. Born on March 7, 1955, in Shimla, India, he pursued his education at Panjab University and later trained at the National School of Drama. With a career spanning over four decades, Kher has acted in more than 540 films, earning widespread acclaim for his versatility and powerful performances.
Kher made his breakthrough with Saaransh (1984), where he portrayed an elderly father, a role that won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He continued to impress audiences with his performances in films like Karma (1986), Tezaab (1988), Ram Lakhan (1989), and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). His ability to seamlessly transition between intense dramatic roles and comedic performances earned him multiple Filmfare Awards, including Best Supporting Actor and Best Comedian.
Beyond Bollywood, Kher has made a mark in international cinema, appearing in films like Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), and Hotel Mumbai (2019). His contributions to Indian cinema were recognized with the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.
Apart from acting, Kher has served as the Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India and the National School of Drama.
