Biography
Attakathi Dinesh, born in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, is a versatile Tamil film actor celebrated for his natural performances and comic timing. Coming from a middle-class background with no film industry connections, he began his artistic journey in 2001 through theatre, performing in Tamil, English, and French plays.
From 2006 to 2012, Dinesh appeared in small roles in Tamil TV serials and films, including minor parts in Aadukalam, Mouna Guru, and E. Facing limited opportunities, he even considered quitting acting before landing his breakthrough role in Pa. Ranjith’s Attakathi (2012). His portrayal of Dinakaran, a semi-urban youth navigating love and life, won critical acclaim and earned him the nickname “Attakathi Dinesh.”
He went on to deliver notable performances in Cuckoo (2014), where he played a visually challenged man, Oru Naal Koothu (2016), Ulkuthu (2017), Annanukku Jai (2018), and Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu (2019). His role in Tamizhuku En Ondrai Azhuthavum (2015) was part of a film that premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the Amnesty International Italia Award.
In addition to acting, Dinesh made his directorial debut with Vayiruda (2021), in which he also played the lead. He continues to explore diverse roles, such as a middle-aged father in the 2024 hit Lubber Pandhu.
