Biography

Deepak Dobriyal, born on 1 September 1975 in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, is an acclaimed Indian actor celebrated for his versatility in theatre and cinema. He moved to Delhi at the age of five, where he began his journey in theatre before transitioning to films. His film debut came with Vishal Bhardwaj’s Maqbool (2003), but it was his role in Omkara (2006) that brought him widespread recognition, earning him the Filmfare Award for Special Performance. Known for his natural acting style and comic timing, Dobriyal has carved a niche in Bollywood with memorable roles in films like Shaurya (2008), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), Dabangg 2 (2012), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), Hindi Medium (2017), and Angrezi Medium (2020).

 

Beyond mainstream cinema, Deepak has also worked in Marathi films and continues to be admired for his ability to balance intense drama with light-hearted comedy. His portrayal of “Pappi Ji” in the Tanu Weds Manu series remains one of his most iconic performances, winning him multiple awards including the IIFA Award for Best Comic Role. Married to Lara Bhalla since 2009, Dobriyal is known for keeping his personal life private while focusing on his craft.
