Biography

Girija Lokesh is a veteran Indian actress and film producer known for her contributions to Kannada cinema and theater. Born on January 10, 1951, she grew up in Bengaluru and developed a passion for performing arts from a young age. Before entering the film industry, she was actively involved in theater, performing in numerous plays across Kannada, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. Her early exposure to stage acting helped her refine her craft, making her a versatile performer.

Girija made her film debut in 1973 with Abachurina Post Office, which won the National Film Award. Over the years, she has appeared in several acclaimed films, including Kakana Kote, Halli Meshtru, Bhootayyana Mommaga Ayyu, and Bhajarangi. Her ability to portray a wide range of characters, from comedic roles to strong maternal figures, has earned her immense respect in the industry. In addition to acting, she has also ventured into film production, contributing to projects like Karune Illada Kanoonu (1983).

Apart from films, Girija Lokesh has been a familiar face on Kannada television, appearing in popular shows such as Jothe Jotheyali, Majaa Talkies, and Jenugoodu. In recognition of her contributions to Kannada cinema, she was honored with the prestigious Rajyotsava Award in 2013. As the wife of late actor Lokesh and mother of actor Srujan Lokesh, she continues to be an influential figure in the industry, inspiring generations of artists with her dedication and talent.
