Biography

Laya Gorty is a celebrated Indian actress and accomplished Kuchipudi dancer, best known for her work in Telugu cinema. Born on October 21, 1981, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, she began her artistic journey as a child actor in Bhadram Koduko (1992) and transitioned into lead roles with Swayamvaram (1999), which marked the beginning of a prolific film career.

Laya quickly rose to prominence in the early 2000s, earning critical acclaim and back-to-back Nandi Awards for Best Actress for her performances in Manoharam (2000) and Preminchu (2001). Her expressive acting and graceful screen presence made her a favorite in family dramas and romantic films. She starred in over 40 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages, including hits like Missamma, Hanuman Junction, Swarabhishekam, and Udayon.

Apart from acting, Laya is a trained classical dancer who has performed in over 50 stage shows. She holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications and was also a state-level chess player during her school years. In 2006, she married Dr. Sri Ganesh Gorty and later moved to Los Angeles, where she focused on family life while occasionally returning to the screen for select roles, such as in Amar Akbar Anthony (2018) and the upcoming Thammudu (2025).
