Biography
Mir Sarwar is a Kashmiri-born Indian actor, writer, and director best known for his impactful roles in Bollywood films such as Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Phantom (2015), Kesari (2019), and Jolly LLB 2 (2017). Born on 19 February 1977 in Pandrethan, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, he began his career in New Delhi as a model in 1999 before moving into theatre to refine his craft. He trained under renowned directors M.K. Raina and Bapi Bose and participated in workshops at the National School of Drama, which helped him develop a strong foundation in acting. His breakthrough role came in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, where he played the father of the lost Pakistani girl Shahida, a performance that resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike.
Beyond mainstream cinema, Mir Sarwar has contributed significantly to Kashmiri film projects, including Kashmir Daily, a self-financed venture aimed at encouraging local filmmaking. He is known for supporting Kashmiri cinema without charging fees, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing regional talent. Apart from acting, he is also a trained martial artist and a national medallist in kickboxing, Wushu, and Muay Thai, which allows him to perform his own stunts. His versatility extends to theatre, photography, and direction, making him a multifaceted artist.
