Biography

Randeep Hooda, the versatile Indian actor, writer, producer, director, and equestrian, has left an indelible mark on Hindi cinema. Born on August 20, 1976, in Rohtak, Haryana, he hails from a Jat family. His father, Dr. Ranbir Hooda, is a medical surgeon, and his mother, Asha Hooda, is a dedicated social worker. Randeep spent much of his childhood with his grandmother in their hometown due to his parents’ extensive travels, including their time in the Middle East.

Educated at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports (MNSS) in Rai, Haryana, Randeep actively participated in swimming and equestrian sports, earning medals at the national level. His interest in theatre blossomed during school, where he even directed some productions. However, his family’s aspirations for him to become a doctor led to his transfer to Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram in New Delhi.

After completing his schooling, Randeep embarked on an adventurous journey. He moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 1995, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in business management and human resource management. During this period, he worked various odd jobs, including stints as a waiter, taxi driver, and even in a Chinese restaurant.

In 2000, Randeep returned to India and began modeling and acting in amateur theatre in Delhi. Fate intervened when director Mira Nair approached him during rehearsals for the play “To Teach His Own”. This encounter led to his acting debut in Nair’s acclaimed film “Monsoon Wedding” in 2001.

Randeep Hooda’s career trajectory witnessed significant turning points. He gained prominence with roles in films like “Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai”, “Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster”, “Highway”, and “Sarbjit”. His versatility extended to movies such as “Jannat 2”, “Jism 2”, “Cocktail”, “Kick”, “Sultan”, and “Baaghi 2”.

Beyond films, Randeep’s personal life also made headlines. His relationship with former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen garnered attention, although they eventually parted ways. Recently, in November 2023, Randeep tied the knot with Manipuri actress and model Lin Laishram in a traditional Manipuri Meitei wedding ceremony.
