Biography

Raza Murad is a veteran Indian actor, widely recognized for his deep baritone voice and commanding screen presence, who has appeared in over 250 films across Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, and other languages. Born on 23 November 1950 in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, he is the son of Bollywood character actor Hamid Ali Murad. He studied acting at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and made his debut in Johar-Mehmood in Goa (1965). His career gained momentum in the 1970s with films like Ek Nazar (1972), where he often played sympathetic brotherly roles, before transitioning into more powerful villainous and character portrayals in later decades.

Over the years, Raza Murad became a staple in Bollywood, known for memorable roles in films such as Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985), Khudgarz (1987), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Bajirao Mastani (2015), and Padmaavat (2018). His versatility allowed him to portray kings, villains, and father figures with equal conviction. He is also related to actress Zeenat Aman (his paternal first cousin) and comes from a family deeply rooted in cinema, with nieces Sonam and Sanober Kabir also in the industry. Married to Samina Murad since 1972, he has two children. With a career spanning more than five decades, Raza Murad remains one of Bollywood’s most respected character actors, admired for his longevity and impactful performances.
