Roopa Lakshmi, also known as Roopa Devi, is an Indian actress who has graced the screens in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. Let’s delve into her fascinating journey:

Roopa made her debut in the experimental film “Kamala” in 1979, where her portrayal of a prostitute garnered critical acclaim.
She entered commercial cinema in 1980 with “Simha Jodi”, playing the role of Vishnuvardhan’s sister. Her prominent Kannada movies include “Haalu Jenu,” “Mullina Gulabi,” “Bandhana,” “Avala Antharanga,” “Marali Goodige,” “Trishoola,” “Aahuthi,” “Dharma,” and “Bala Nouke.”

Roopa’s performance in “Avala Antharanga” earned her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress in 1984–85. She worked with leading Kannada actors of her time, including Dr. Rajkumar, Kalyan Kumar, Vishnuvardhan, Srinath, Ambareesh, Anant Nag, Shankar Nag, and Lokesh. Notably, she was paired with matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar in successful films like “Haalu Jenu,” “Samayada Gombe,” and “Yarivanu.”

After a hiatus of almost two decades, Roopa made a comeback in 2008 with the film “Ganga Kaveri.” In 2011, she portrayed the role of the mother in “Jarasandha.”

Roopa is the daughter of Kalyanam Raghuramaiah and veteran actress Advani Lakshmi Devi.
Her debutante heroine role in the tragic romantic film “Oru Thalai Ragam” (Tamil) alongside newcomer Shankar gained her fame.
