Samarjit lankesh

Biography

Samarjit Lankesh is an emerging Indian actor whose cinematic journey is deeply rooted in a legacy of storytelling and activism. Born into the illustrious Lankesh family, Samarjit is the son of filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh and the nephew of acclaimed director Kavitha Lankesh. His grandfather, P. Lankesh, was a revered literary figure and filmmaker, while his late aunt, Gauri Lankesh, was a fearless journalist and activist.

Despite this rich heritage, Samarjit is determined to forge his own path in the film industry. His debut film, Gowri (2024), directed by his father, marks his formal entry into cinema. The film’s title pays homage to his aunt Gauri Lankesh and also reflects the name of his character, Gowrishankar—a local hero with big dreams.

Growing up on film sets, Samarjit was more intrigued by the craft of filmmaking than its glamour. He absorbed the nuances of storytelling through conversations with his aunts and by observing his father’s directorial process. This hands-on exposure shaped his approach to acting, emphasizing authenticity and hard work over fame.

Samarjit openly addresses the topic of nepotism, acknowledging the scrutiny that comes with being launched by a family member. However, he insists that his casting in Gowri was driven by the story’s demands, not familial ties. He admires his father’s stylized filmmaking and was excited to see him venture into a mass entertainer with action and drama elements.

With a grounded perspective and a passion for storytelling, Samarjit Lankesh represents a new generation of actors who balance legacy with individuality. His debut signals not just the arrival of a new talent but also a continuation of the Lankesh family's commitment to bold, meaningful narratives.
