Sonia Agarwal was born on March 28, 1982, in Chandigarh, India. She hails from a Punjabi family and initially pursued a career in modeling before stepping into the film industry. During her school days, she received an offer to act in a Zee TV serial, which marked the beginning of her journey into entertainment.

Sonia made her film debut with the Telugu movie Nee Premakai (2002), followed by the Kannada film Chandu opposite Sudeep. However, her breakthrough came in Tamil cinema with Kaadhal Kondein (2003), directed by Selvaraghavan.
