Early Life and Background
Sonia Agarwal was born on March 28, 1982, in Chandigarh, India. She hails from a Punjabi family and initially pursued a career in modeling before stepping into the film industry. During her school days, she received an offer to act in a Zee TV serial, which marked the beginning of her journey into entertainment.
Career and Breakthrough
Sonia made her film debut with the Telugu movie Nee Premakai (2002), followed by the Kannada film Chandu opposite Sudeep. However, her breakthrough came in Tamil cinema with Kaadhal Kondein (2003), directed by Selvaraghavan. Her performance as Divya in the film earned her the ITFA Best New Actress Award and established her as a promising talent.
She continued her success with films like 7G Rainbow Colony (2004), Pudhupettai (2006), and Thiruttu Payale (2006). After her marriage to Selvaraghavan in 2006, she took a break from acting but made a comeback post-divorce in 2010, starring in Vaanam and several other projects.
