Suriya is an Indian actor, producer, and distributor who works primarily in Tamil cinema. He was born Saravanan Sivakumar on July 23, 1975 in Chennai, India to actor Sivakumar and his wife Lakshmi. He made his acting debut in Nerukku Ner (1997) at the age of 22 and landed his breakthrough role in Nandha (2001). His first major commercial success was Kaakha Kaakha (2003). Suriya has been credited in more than 60 movies, including Anjaan (2014), Vikram (2022), Kanguva, Soorarai Pottru, and Vaaranam Aayiram. He has also appeared in television shows and music videos, including Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi (2012--2013), Navarasa (2021), and ``Spirit of Chennai'' (2016). 

Suriya has a muscular physique and some of his nicknames include: Singam Suriya. 

He has been married to Jyothika since 2006.
