- Nagabharana is a renowned Indian filmmaker, actor, and playwright, primarily known for his contributions to Kannada cinema. Born on January 23, 1953, in Talakadu, Karnataka, he has been a pioneer of parallel cinema, blending artistic storytelling with mainstream appeal.
Nagabharana started his career in theater, working with legendary dramatist B. V. Karanth. His deep-rooted passion for storytelling led him to filmmaking, where he became one of the most respected directors in Kannada cinema. His debut film, Grahana (1978), won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, marking the beginning of an illustrious career.
Over the years, he directed critically acclaimed films such as Mysore Mallige, Chigurida Kanasu, Nagamandala, and Kallarali Hoovagi. His works often explore themes of social justice, folklore, and human relationships, earning him multiple National and State Awards.
Apart from films, Nagabharana has been actively involved in television and theater, producing and directing numerous serials and plays. He has also served as the Chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, contributing to the development of Kannada cinema.
