Biography

Thagubothu Ramesh, born Ramilla Ramesh, is a popular Telugu comedian and actor best known for his unique portrayal of drunkard characters, which earned him the nickname “Thagubothu” (meaning ‘drunkard’ in Telugu).

Ramesh was born on 20 January 1981 in Godavarikhani, Telangana. His father worked at the Singareni Collieries Company, while his mother was a homemaker. Growing up, Ramesh witnessed his father’s struggles with alcoholism, which deeply impacted him. He often pacified his mother by mimicking his father’s drunken behavior, unknowingly developing the comic timing and mannerisms that would later define his career.

He made his film debut in Jagadam (2007), but his breakthrough came with Ala Modalaindi (2011), where he played Gowtham, a drunkard software engineer. His performance was widely appreciated, and the role cemented his reputation as a specialist in portraying inebriated characters. Following this, he appeared in several successful films including Mahatma (2009), Pilla Zamindar (2011), Ishq (2012), Baadshah (2013), and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020).

Ramesh’s ability to bring humor and relatability to his roles earned him the Nandi Award for Best Male Comedian, one of the most prestigious recognitions in Telugu cinema. His career spans over a decade, and he has become a staple in comedy sequences, often lightening the mood in family entertainers and romantic dramas.

On the personal front, Ramesh married Swathi in 2015, and the couple has a daughter. Despite his comic persona on screen, he has spoken openly about the pain of his childhood experiences, using them as inspiration to transform hardship into art.
