Tamil actor Arya has reportedly landed in legal trouble after a criminal case was registered against him and members of his production team over an alleged payment dispute amounting to ₹1.80 crore. The case has been filed by a Hyderabad-based cinema equipment supplier, which claims that the dues remain unpaid despite repeated requests for settlement. The matter is now under investigation by the Jubilee Hills Police.
According to the complaint, Taher Cine Technic, a Film Nagar-based company specializing in cinema equipment rentals, supplied high-end digital cameras, lenses, lighting systems, and other filmmaking gear for the production of the film Ananthan Kadu. The company alleged that the equipment was transported from Hyderabad to Kerala at its own expense to facilitate the film's shooting schedule.
The complainant stated that the production team used the equipment throughout the filming process without any issues. However, after the shoot was completed, the company claimed that the agreed payments were not made in full. Despite several reminders, meetings, and follow-up communications, the alleged outstanding amount of approximately ₹1.80 crore remained unpaid, prompting the company to approach the police.
Based on the complaint, the Jubilee Hills Police registered a criminal case against Arya and members of the production team under relevant legal provisions. Officials have begun an investigation to verify the allegations and examine whether the dispute involves criminal wrongdoing or falls within the scope of a civil financial disagreement.
As part of the investigation, police are expected to review rental agreements, invoices, payment records, bank transactions, and communication exchanged between both parties. Statements from representatives of the equipment supplier, members of the production team, and other individuals associated with the film are also likely to be recorded.
The case has generated considerable attention within the South Indian film industry, where production houses frequently rely on specialized vendors for expensive filmmaking equipment.
