The ownership group is led by the Khosla family, including Vinod Khosla and his wife, Neeru Khosla, who is expected to serve as the controlling owner of the franchise. Their son, Neal Khosla, is also expected to be involved in the ownership group. The Seattle Seahawks announced the agreement, stating that the Khosla family will become the team's next stewards once the necessary league approvals are secured.

Vinod Khosla is one of Silicon Valley's most prominent investors. Born in India, he co-founded Sun Microsystems before establishing Khosla Ventures, a venture capital firm that has invested in hundreds of technology, healthcare, artificial intelligence, and clean energy startups. His entrepreneurial journey has made him one of the world's most successful venture capitalists and a well-known figure in the global technology industry.

The Seattle Seahawks were previously owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who purchased the franchise in 1997. Following Allen's death in 2018, his estate, overseen by his sister Jody Allen, managed the team. In accordance with Paul Allen's wishes, the franchise was placed on the market, with proceeds from the eventual sale intended to support philanthropic initiatives.

The reported purchase price of $9.612 billion surpasses the previous NFL franchise sale record of $6.05 billion, set by the Washington Commanders in 2023. It also ranks among the largest transactions involving a North American sports franchise, reflecting the growing commercial value of professional sports teams and increasing investor interest in premium sporting assets.

As part of the acquisition, Vinod Khosla will be required to divest his existing minority ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers to comply with NFL ownership rules, which prohibit cross-ownership of competing franchises. League owners are expected to vote on the transaction in the coming weeks before the sale receives final approval.

In a statement following the announcement, Vinod Khosla said the family was honored to become the next custodians of the Seahawks and expressed their commitment to building on the successful legacy established by Paul Allen. The Seahawks, who are the defending Super Bowl champions, are expected to continue playing at Lumen Field in Seattle under the new ownership. If approved, the deal will mark one of the most significant moments in NFL ownership history and further strengthen the global influence of Indian-origin business leaders in international sports.
