Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared David Dhawan's much-anticipated romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with a U/A 16+ certificate, but not before suggesting a series of significant modifications to the film . The movie, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026 .
Vulgar Language and Obscene Gestures
The CBFC's Examining Committee (EC) instructed the makers to replace a particular inappropriate word at four different places in the film with a more suitable alternative . Additionally, a visual featuring a vulgar hand gesture was also ordered to be replaced .
Condom Brand and Cricketer Names
In one of the scenes featuring a condom packet, the board directed that the brand name be digitally blurred . Furthermore, the word indicating the flavour names associated with the product was asked to be muted .
In a rather unusual modification, a shot featuring the names of England cricketers Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes was visually edited down to six seconds .
Dance Sequence Modifications
The board also objected to a dance sequence where the undergarments of female performers were visible. The makers were asked to zoom in on the faces and upper bodies of the dancing women to hide the wardrobe exposure .
Final Runtime
Once all the recommended changes were implemented, the film was handed its censor certificate on May 27 . According to the certificate, the final length of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is 136.40 minutes, which translates to 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 40 seconds .
The film, produced by Ramesh Taurani under the Tips Films banner, also stars Maniesh Paul, Chunky Pandey, Jimmy Shergill, and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles.
