During the film's high-profile pre-release event held in Vijayawada, the director made a jaw-dropping comparison between his debut and his sophomore effort. Buchi Babu revealed that his National Award-winning first film, Uppena, was crafted on a modest budget of just ₹25 crore. In contrast, Peddi has been mounted on a monumental ₹350 crore.

This financial figure represents a massive 14x jump in scale from his debut, highlighting the immense trust that producers Venkata Satish Kilaru and Mythri Movie Makers have placed in the director's vision.

A "Simple" Film with a Staggering Cost
What makes the ₹350 crore figure intriguing is the film's rooted setting. Buchi Babu describes Peddi as a rustic sports drama centred on cricket and wrestling—a story of an athlete who falls and rises again. However, the budget reflects a "Sukumar school style" of filmmaking, with a significant portion dedicated to authentic locations, massive visuals, and high-end production value rather than just star fees.

The Financial Breakdown
Trade reports indicate that a large chunk of the budget covers the remuneration of the star cast, with Ram Charan reportedly charging over ₹100 crore. The supporting cast, including Janhvi Kapoor and Shiva Rajkumar, along with AR Rahman's music, adds another significant layer to the costs.

Despite the massive price tag, the makers have already recovered a substantial portion through non-theatrical revenues. The film's OTT rights have reportedly been sold to Netflix for a staggering ₹130 crore, while T-Series acquired the audio rights for over ₹20 crore.

With Peddi slated for a worldwide release on June 4, 2026, the pressure is now immense. To be profitable, the film needs to enter the all-time top five Telugu box office rankings, with a breakeven target of approximately ₹220 crore share in Telugu states alone. Audiences will soon see if this 14x investment pays off on the silver screen.
