Bollywood director Rohit Shetty has come under threat once again, this time facing a ₹20 crore extortion demand from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The warning was delivered through a 90-second audio clip that surfaced on June 27, 2026, just months after five bullets were fired outside his Juhu residence in February. The gang had claimed responsibility for that earlier attack, which shook the film industry.
According to reports, the audio clip was discovered by Shetty’s staff and immediately handed over to the Mumbai Police. The voice in the recording is suspected to be that of Shubham Lonkar, a close aide of Lawrence Bishnoi and a wanted criminal linked to several high-profile cases, including the 2024 murder of politician Baba Siddiqui. The clip reportedly described the February firing as “only a trailer” and warned that Shetty himself would be the direct target if the extortion demand was ignored.
The February incident involved bike-borne assailant Deepak Sharma, who fired five bullets outside Shetty’s Juhu home near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk. Sharma was later arrested in Agra, and the Mumbai Crime Branch filed a 1,624-page charge sheet in April 2026, naming 15 accused. Among them were Pravin Lonkar and Aarzo Bishnoi, who remain absconders. The new audio threat appears to be an escalation, shifting focus from property damage to direct intimidation of Shetty himself.
Mumbai Police have tightened security around Shetty’s residence and are conducting forensic analysis of the audio clip to confirm its authenticity and identify the voice. Investigators believe the Bishnoi gang is deliberately targeting high-profile Bollywood figures to assert dominance and spread fear within the industry.
The extortion threat raises serious concerns about the growing influence of organized crime in Mumbai and its impact on the entertainment sector. With multiple absconders still at large and cross-state arrests complicating the investigation, authorities face a challenging task in curbing the gang’s activities.
The ₹20 crore extortion demand against Rohit Shetty highlights the continuing menace posed by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. With forensic analysis underway and police security heightened, the case remains under active investigation. The incident underscores the vulnerability of prominent figures in Bollywood and the urgent need for stronger protective measures against organized crime.
