Veteran Kannada Actor Dinesh Mangaluru Passes Away at 55

Kundapura, August 25, 2025 — The Kannada film industry is mourning the loss of one of its most respected and versatile talents, Dinesh Mangaluru, who passed away early Monday morning at his residence in Kundapura, Udupi district. He was 55.

Dinesh, widely recognized for his memorable role as the Bombay Don in the blockbuster film KGF, had been battling a prolonged illness. Reports confirm that he breathed his last around 3:30 AM, following complications related to a brain haemorrhage.

A Career Rooted in Art and Performance

Before rising to fame as an actor, Dinesh Mangaluru made his mark as a renowned art director, contributing to several acclaimed Kannada films such as Veera Madakari, Chandramukhi Pranasakhi, and No. 73 Shantinivasa3. His transition from behind-the-scenes artistry to on-screen performances showcased his depth and versatility.

Apart from KGF, his acting credits include notable films like Kirik Party, Kichcha, Rana Vikrama, Ambari, Savari, Aa Dinagalu, and Slum Bala4. His portrayal of Seetharam Shetty in Aa Dinagalu remains a standout performance in his career.

Tributes Pour In

The news of his passing has triggered an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the Sandalwood fraternity. Director P. Seshadri and actor Matha Koppal were among the many who expressed heartfelt condolences, remembering Dinesh as a “theatre actor, film actor, art director, and close friend”.

His body will be brought to Bengaluru for public viewing at his residence in Laggere on Tuesday morning, followed by final rites at the Sumanahalli crematorium.

Born in Kundapura and a long-time resident of Bengaluru, Dinesh is survived by his wife Bharati and sons Pawan and Sajjan. His journey from theatre to cinema, and from art direction to acting, leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of artists.
