Varun Chakravarthy Breaks Kuldeep Yadav's Record in T20I Matches

Varun Chakravarthy continues to impress in international cricket, shattering Kuldeep Yadav's record for the most wickets by an Indian spinner in a series of T20I matches. During the third T20I against England at Rajkot, Chakravarthy's stellar performance, taking 5 wickets for 24 runs in just four overs, was a highlight.

His remarkable spell included dismissing top English batsmen like Jos Buttler, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer, taking England from a strong position of 83/1 to a struggling 127/8. This performance not only helped India restrict England to 171/9 but also secured Chakravarthy's place as the first player to take 10 wickets in a bilateral T20I series between India and England.

Since rejoining the T20I side last year, Chakravarthy has played 10 matches, claiming 27 wickets at an average of 10.96 and an economy rate of 7.40. His best bowling figures in this stretch are an impressive 5/17. Overall, in 16 T20I matches, he has taken 29 wickets at an average of 14.65, with an economy rate of 6.84.

Globally, Chakravarthy now ranks third for most wickets by a spinner in a 10-match stretch in T20Is, behind Syazrul Idrus of Malaysia with 28 wickets and Rashid Khan of Afghanistan with 30 wickets.

Chakravarthy's rise from relative obscurity to becoming a key part of India's T20I setup is a testament to his perseverance and skill. His ability to vary his deliveries and maintain pressure on batsmen has made him one of the most effective spinners in the shortest format of the game.
