Minister Visits Bereaved Family, Announces 25 Lakh Compensation After Tragic Banner Collapse

Bellary, October 27, In a somber visit to the family of the late Rajashekar, Bellary District In-charge Minister B. Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan today announced a compensation package and assurances of government support following the tragic incident that claimed the man’s life.

The minister met with the grieving family members at their residence, expressing his deep condolences and the government’s solidarity with them in their loss. The tragedy occurred when a large, improperly erected advertising banner, reportedly destabilized by strong winds, fell onto Rajashekar, leading to fatal injuries.

“No words can truly alleviate the pain of losing a loved one in such a sudden and tragic manner,” stated Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan. “The government stands with the family in this hour of profound grief.”

During the visit, the minister formally presented a compensation cheque of ₹25 lakh to the family. He further assured them of a government job for one eligible member of the family, a measure aimed at providing long-term economic stability. Additionally, he promised that a house would be built for the family under a relevant state housing scheme.

“The compensation, job, and house are not just assistance; they are our duty and a small token of our responsibility towards a family that has suffered due to this unfortunate event,” the Minister added.

The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of municipal regulations governing the erection of hoardings, banners, and flex boards across the city. Local citizens and activists have long complained about the proliferation of such unauthorized and structurally unsafe advertisements, which pose a significant risk to public safety, especially during inclement weather.

The local municipal corporation has come under scrutiny, with questions being raised about the permissions and structural audits of the banner that collapsed. While the police have registered a case and an investigation is underway to fix responsibility, the minister’s visit is seen as an immediate response to address the family’s plight.

The family members, while overwhelmed by grief, acknowledged the government’s prompt response. Neighbors and local community leaders gathered outside the house, expressing hope that the tragedy would lead to concrete administrative action to prevent such accidents in the future.

Authorities have indicated that a drive to identify and remove illegal or hazardous banners and hoardings across the district will be intensified in the coming days.
