The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has expanded its digital member services, allowing employees to access several important Provident Fund facilities online through its revamped portal. The updated digital system is designed to reduce the need for physical visits to EPFO regional offices by making essential services accessible from home using a UAN-linked account.
The move is expected to benefit millions of salaried employees across India by simplifying routine PF-related tasks such as account activation, document updates, balance checking and claim submissions. Members can now complete many of these processes digitally, provided their UAN and required KYC details are properly linked.
1. Activate Your UAN Online
Employees who have received their Universal Account Number can activate it directly through EPFO's member services. UAN activation is the first step towards accessing online PF facilities and managing the account digitally.
2. Retrieve a Forgotten UAN
Members who do not remember their UAN can use the Know Your UAN facility to retrieve it using basic personal details. This eliminates the need to visit an EPFO office simply to recover account credentials.
3. Check PF Passbook and Balance
The digital portal allows members to view their PF passbook, including contribution history and transaction records. Employees can monitor their accumulated balance and download passbook details online whenever required.
4. Update KYC Details
Members can submit KYC information such as Aadhaar, PAN and bank account details through the online portal. Keeping KYC updated is essential for accessing several EPFO services, including online claim processing.
5. File PF Withdrawal Claims
Eligible employees can submit PF withdrawal claims online without physically visiting a regional office. Depending on eligibility, members can apply for final settlement, pension-related benefits or advance withdrawal through the digital claim service.
6. Transfer PF After Changing Jobs
Employees switching companies can request the transfer of their PF balance online. The digital transfer facility helps consolidate PF accounts linked to the same UAN, making retirement savings easier to manage across different employers.
7. Submit E-Nomination
EPFO members can add or update nominee details through the e-Nomination service. This online facility helps ensure that eligible family members can claim PF benefits smoothly in the future if required.

8. Track Claim Status Online
After submitting a PF claim, members can monitor its progress through the portal instead of visiting an EPFO office for updates. The online tracking feature provides greater transparency during claim processing.
What Members Need Before Using the Portal
To access most online services, employees generally need an activated UAN, Aadhaar linked with EPFO records, an updated bank account with IFSC details and a registered mobile number for OTP authentication. PAN may also be required for certain final settlement claims depending on eligibility and service history.
