Mumbai Civic Body Hiring Gen Z on ₹61,500 Stipend: Eligibility, Seats and How to Apply
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched the BMC Gen Z Fellowship 2026, offering young graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in civic administration while receiving a monthly stipend of ₹61,500. The 12-month fellowship has been introduced under the vision of “Let's join hands for Viksit Mumbai” and aims to bring young talent and fresh ideas into Mumbai's municipal governance.
The programme has 50 fellowship positions. Selected fellows will work within the BMC's administrative framework and gain exposure to policymaking, project planning, governance and leadership. Fellows may be attached to senior civic offices, including the Municipal Commissioner, Additional Municipal Commissioners, Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman and various departmental heads.
BMC Gen Z Fellowship 2026: Who Can Apply?
Candidates must hold a graduate degree in any stream to be eligible for the fellowship. The age limit is below 28 years at the time of application. Applicants must also be proficient in Marathi, including reading, writing and speaking. Adequate knowledge of Hindi and English, along with working knowledge of computers and the internet, is also required.
The fellowship is particularly aimed at young professionals who want practical exposure to government functioning and urban administration. Successful candidates will not be appointed as regular BMC employees; the fellowship is offered on a contractual basis for the specified tenure.
Stipend and Fellowship Duration
Selected candidates will receive ₹61,500 per month throughout the 12-month programme. Apart from the financial support, fellows will receive practical exposure to civic governance and a certificate of participation after completing the programme.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the BMC recruitment portal. The application process opened on August 19, 2026, and the last date to submit applications is August 31, 2026. Candidates are required to pay an application fee of ₹500 while submitting the application.
