Covid Scare Returns in Karnataka: Cases Rise, High Alert in Pavagada

Karnataka is once again facing a COVID-19 scare as the number of active cases has risen sharply in July 2026. The health department has confirmed 32 active infections, compared to just 14 last month. Nearly 193 suspected individuals were tested, and 32 were found positive. This sudden increase has prompted authorities to intensify surveillance and issue fresh advisories to the public.

Cross-Border Concerns with Andhra Pradesh

The situation has become more alarming due to reports from Andhra Pradesh, where two COVID-related deaths and several positive cases have been recorded in Kadapa district. Since Pavagada in Tumakuru district shares a border with Andhra Pradesh, officials fear cross-border transmission. This has led to heightened vigilance and strict monitoring in the region.

High Alert in Pavagada

Authorities have declared a high alert in Pavagada taluk, setting up multiple checkposts to screen travelers entering Karnataka from Andhra Pradesh. Health staff have been deployed at five key points, including Rajavantige, to conduct fever checks and thermal scanning. Anyone showing symptoms is being directed to nearby hospitals for immediate testing and treatment.

Government Measures

The Karnataka health department has rolled out several precautionary steps to contain the spread:

Screening at Borders: Thermal scanning and fever checks at all entry points.

Hospital Readiness: COVID wards in government and private hospitals kept on standby.

Emergency Meetings: District officials, led by DC Shubha Kalyan, have instructed continuous monitoring and rapid response.

Public Guidelines: Citizens are urged to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and get tested if symptoms appear.

Public Advisory

Officials stress that these measures are preventive and not a cause for panic. Residents are advised to cooperate with screening teams, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow basic hygiene practices. The health department has assured that Karnataka is prepared to handle the situation and prevent further escalation
