Heavy Rains Flood Delhi Streets, Snarl Morning Traffic
New Delhi witnessed another spell of heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026, with waterlogging reported across several parts of the national capital and traffic movement slowing on key roads. The fresh downpour came a day after intense rain had already disrupted normal life across Delhi-NCR.
Waterlogging Disrupts Commuters
Heavy showers led to water accumulation on several major roads and stretches, making the morning commute difficult for motorists and pedestrians. Areas including Connaught Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Bikaji Cama Place and the AIIMS flyover loop reported waterlogging, with vehicles moving slowly through affected stretches.

The previous day's rainfall had also caused severe waterlogging around ITO, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Zakhira underpass, New Ashok Nagar, Sangam Vihar and other locations. Janakpuri recorded around 70 mm of rainfall, while Ayanagar received about 69.1 mm, according to weather data cited by The Tribune.
Traffic Snarls Across Delhi
The waterlogged roads resulted in slow-moving traffic during the morning rush hour. Commuters faced delays as vehicles struggled to pass through flooded stretches, while traffic congestion was reported in multiple parts of the city.
The continuing rain has also raised concerns about further disruption to road and air travel. On Monday, adverse weather conditions led to multiple flight diversions at Delhi airport, highlighting the wider impact of the ongoing monsoon spell.
IMD Issues Rain Warning
The India Meteorological Department has warned of more rain over Delhi. Forecasts indicate the possibility of moderate rainfall across many areas, with heavy to extremely heavy rain possible at isolated locations. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected.
The weather conditions have prompted authorities and commuters to remain cautious. In neighbouring Gurugram, the district administration had advised offices, schools and institutions to adopt work-from-home arrangements on August 25 because of concerns over waterlogging and traffic congestion.
Delhi Rain Situation
With heavy showers continuing for a second consecutive day, residents are being advised to exercise caution while travelling, particularly through low-lying and waterlogged areas. The persistent rainfall has once again highlighted the challenges faced by Delhi's drainage and road infrastructure during intense monsoon spells.
As more rain is forecast, commuters should expect possible delays, traffic diversions and further waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
