Punjab Govt’s Decision
On April 15, 2026, the Punjab government officially withdrew the Z+ security cover for Raghav Chadha.

This decision followed Chadha’s removal as the AAP’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, a sign of growing internal differences within the party.

Reports suggest that after the withdrawal, Chadha was left with only a handful of security personnel, despite being a sitting MP.

Centre’s Intervention
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) quickly stepped in, granting Z-category security to Chadha.

The security cover will be provided in both Delhi and Punjab, with paramilitary forces deployed for his protection.

Until the central arrangement is fully in place, the Delhi Police has been tasked with immediate security duties.

Context and Implications
The withdrawal of Z+ cover by Punjab is seen as part of the political rift between Chadha and AAP leadership.

The Centre’s decision was reportedly based on an Intelligence Bureau threat assessment, which recommended enhanced protection.

Z+ security is one of the highest levels of protection in India, typically involving commandos and multiple personnel, while Z-category is slightly lower but still significant.

The episode highlights the political tensions within AAP and the Centre’s role in ensuring security for MPs regardless of state-level decisions. While Chadha’s Z+ cover has been withdrawn, the Centre’s provision of Z-category security ensures his continued protection amid perceived threats.
