Coolie is an upcoming Tamil-language action thriller featuring Rajinikanth, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and produced by Sun Pictures. Set to release on August 14, 2025, the film marks Rajinikanth’s 171st venture as a lead actor.

The movie boasts an ensemble cast, including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and Junior MGR, with Aamir Khan making a special appearance. Pooja Hegde also features in a song sequence. Rajinikanth takes on the role of Deva, a complex and intense character, adding a new dimension to his legendary filmography.

Filming took place across Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Bangkok, wrapping up in March 2025. The film’s high-energy action sequences are choreographed by Anbariv, while Girish Gangadharan’s cinematography enhances the visual grandeur. Philomin Raj has helmed the editing, and the soundtrack, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marks his fifth collaboration with Rajinikanth.

With a massive production budget of ?400 crore, Coolie is one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema. The teaser, released in April 2025, created a wave of anticipation, especially for its nostalgic nod to Rajinikanth’s iconic Thalapathi sunset scene.
