Su From So Reviews
Su From So (2025)
Su From So, directed by JP Thuminad and backed by Raj B Shetty, is a delightful Kannada horror-comedy that blends absurdity with social insight. Set in a coastal village in Dakshina Kannada, the film follows Ashoka (Thuminad), a carefree youth whose life spirals when villagers believe he’s possessed by the ghost of Sulochana from Someshwara.
The first half is packed with laugh-out-loud moments, thanks to the eccentric ensemble cast—Shaneel Gautham, Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Panaje, and Mime Ramdas—whose comic timing is impeccable. But the film isn’t just a gag reel. It transitions into a poignant narrative, especially through Bhanu (Sandhya Arekere), Sulochana’s daughter, whose story adds emotional weight and feminist depth.
Thuminad’s direction shines in balancing slapstick with subtle commentary on patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and spiritual exploitation. The cinematography by S Chandrasekaran captures the village’s charm, while Sumedh K’s music and Sandeep Tulasidas’s background score elevate the mood.
Though the pacing dips slightly in the second act, Su From So remains a refreshing, heartfelt film that celebrates community, culture, and comedy. It’s a must-watch for fans of grounded storytelling with a twist of the supernatural.
