
In a landmark move to empower women economically, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on September 26, transferring ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar. The initiative, led by the Bihar government and supported by the Centre, aims to promote self-employment and financial independence among women through direct benefit transfers (DBT) totaling ₹7,500 crore.
The scheme is designed to support one eligible woman from each family in starting or expanding livelihood activities such as farming, tailoring, handicrafts, animal husbandry, and micro-enterprises. Future phases may offer additional grants of up to ₹2 lakh based on performance assessments.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for the ₹10,000 grant under the scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Gender & Age: Must be a woman aged between 18 and 60 years
- Income Criteria: No member of the household should be a government employee or income tax payer
- SHG Membership: Must be associated with a Self-Help Group (SHG); non-members can apply to join
- Special Provision: Unmarried adult women without surviving parents are also eligible
- Residency: Must be a resident of Bihar
- KYC Requirements: Aadhaar, mobile number, and active bank account in the applicant’s name
