Ashanya Dwivedi, wife of Kanpur businessman Shubham Dwivedi, has spoken out about the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that claimed her husband's life. In a heartfelt interview, she recalled how the terrorists approached them, asking whether they were Hindu or Muslim and demanding that Muslims recite the Kalma. Initially believing it was a prank, she and Shubham exchanged smiles—only for the terrorist to shoot Shubham in the forehead within seconds after he identified himself as Hindu.
Still reeling from the grief, Ashanya expressed her anger and frustration over what she perceives as a lack of security and government acknowledgment. She stated, “The government abandoned us. I don’t know if it’s lack of security or acknowledgement.” According to witnesses, security forces arrived nearly an hour after the attack, raising concerns about tourist safety and intelligence failures in sensitive regions. She has since called for her husband to be recognized as a martyr, highlighting his bravery in the tragic moment.
Her emotional testimony has sparked national outrage, with citizens demanding stronger security measures to protect civilians. Shubham’s father, Sanjay Dwivedi, also voiced his disappointment, questioning how such an attack could happen in a well-frequented tourist spot. The incident has reignited debates about terrorism, religious targeting, and the urgent need for enhanced security protocols in vulnerable areas. Political leaders and social activists have urged the government to provide compensation and recognition to the victims’ families.
As Ashanya continues to seek justice and accountability, the country mourns the loss of innocent lives. The attack has left families devastated, shining a harsh light on India’s security preparedness and counterterrorism efforts. While the government has promised investigations and stronger enforcement, Ashanya’s words remain a painful reminder of the human cost of terrorism and the need for swift action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
