Karnataka Weather Alert — Heavy Rains to Lash Coastal and Northern Interior Regions Till October 1

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Karnataka, forecasting persistent heavy rainfall across coastal and northern interior districts until October 1. The alert comes amid an active monsoon phase, with moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea intensifying precipitation in the region.

Districts including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Bagalkot, and Vijayapura are expected to receive moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Rainfall activity may peak during the late evening and early morning hours, prompting local authorities to remain on high alert.

“We are witnessing a strong monsoon surge along the coast and interior belts,” said an IMD official. “Residents should avoid low-lying areas and stay updated on local advisories.”

Urban centers like Mangaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad have already reported waterlogging and traffic disruptions due to overnight downpours. Farmers in the region are advised to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops, especially in rain-fed agricultural zones.

The IMD has also warned of localized flooding, landslides in hilly terrain, and potential disruption to transportation and power supply. Schools in some districts may remain closed depending on rainfall intensity.

The weather department continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as conditions evolve. Citizens are urged to follow official channels for real-time alerts and safety instructions.
