Rahul Gandhi Condoles Karur Stampede Deaths; Urges Congress Cadre to Aid Relief Efforts

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s rally in Karur, which claimed at least 38 lives and injured dozens. In a statement issued Saturday evening, Gandhi extended condolences to the bereaved families and called upon Congress workers in Tamil Nadu to actively support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The stampede occurred during a massive public gathering addressed by actor-turned-politician Vijay, where crowd numbers reportedly exceeded safety limits. The incident has sparked widespread concern over crowd management protocols at political events.

Gandhi’s message comes amid a wave of national condolences, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is scheduled to visit Karur on Sunday to meet victims’ families and review emergency response measures.

Congress leaders in the state have begun mobilizing local units to assist with hospital support, food distribution, and coordination with district authorities. Civic groups have also urged political parties to prioritize safety and accountability in future mass gatherings.
