Supreme Court Verdict in MUDA Case: Siddaramaiah Slams ‘Vendetta Politics’, Demands Apology

In a landmark judgment on July 21, 2025, the Supreme Court of India dismissed the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) appeal to investigate Smt. Parvathi, wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in connection with the MUDA site allotment case. The verdict, delivered by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, upheld the Karnataka High Court’s earlier decision to quash the ED’s summons, citing lack of merit and political misuse of investigative agencies2.

Reacting to the ruling, Siddaramaiah issued a strongly worded statement, calling the verdict a “resounding slap on the face of the Central Government’s vendetta politics.” He accused the BJP and its allies of orchestrating a political witch-hunt by misusing constitutional bodies like the CBI, ED, and IT department to harass his family. “Unable to defeat me politically, they stooped to fabricating baseless cases,” he said, adding that the mental agony caused by the ordeal would remain a painful chapter in their lives.

The Chief Minister lauded the Supreme Court’s observation that “electoral battles must be fought through the people, not through the misuse of institutions like the ED,” calling it the voice of justice rising against tyranny. He emphasized that the verdict reaffirms faith in the judiciary and offers solace to others who have faced similar politically motivated investigations over the past decade.

Siddaramaiah also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to stop weaponizing constitutional agencies for political gain and restore their autonomy. He demanded a public apology from BJP and JD(S) leaders in Karnataka who, he claimed, had relentlessly hurled fabricated allegations against him and his family in the MUDA case6.

The MUDA case involved allegations of irregularities in compensatory site allotments to Parvathi under a 50:50 scheme, which were later quashed by the High Court due to lack of evidence and procedural lapses.

This verdict marks a significant moment in Karnataka’s political landscape, highlighting the judiciary’s role in safeguarding democratic values and curbing institutional overreach.
