Subham

Subham, directed by Praveen Kandregula, is a refreshing blend of horror and comedy, marking Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s debut as a producer. Set in the early 2000s in coastal Bheemili, Andhra Pradesh, the film cleverly uses nostalgia and small-town quirks to craft an engaging narrative. The story revolves around three couples whose lives take a bizarre turn when their wives start behaving strangely after watching a mysterious TV soap opera.  

The film’s strength lies in its sharp writing and engaging performances. Harshith Reddy, Gavireddy Srinivas, Charan Peri, Shriya Kontham, Shravani Lakshmi, Shalini Kondepudi, and Vamshidhar Goud deliver compelling portrayals, making the supernatural chaos feel both hilarious and relatable. The screenplay, penned by Vasanth Maringanti, subtly explores gender dynamics, adding depth to the humor. The music by Vivek Sagar and cinematography by Mridul Sen enhance the eerie yet entertaining atmosphere.  

While the film successfully balances satire and supernatural elements, some viewers felt that the pacing dipped in the second half, with certain scenes dragging unnecessarily. However, the unexpected twists and well-timed comedic moments keep the audience engaged. Samantha’s brief but impactful cameo adds an extra layer of intrigue, proving her versatility even in a non-leading role.  

Overall, Subham is a fun and thought-provoking film that offers a fresh take on the horror-comedy genre. Its unique premise, nostalgic setting, and witty execution make it a must-watch, especially for fans of quirky storytelling. Despite minor flaws, the film stands out as an entertaining and socially relevant cinematic experience.
