Biography
Bhumika Chawla, born Rachna Chawla on 21 August 1978 in New Delhi, is an acclaimed Indian actress best known for her work in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil cinema.
She began her career in Mumbai in the late 1990s, appearing in commercials and music videos before making her acting debut in the Telugu film Yuvakudu (2000). Her breakthrough came with Kushi (2001), which established her as one of the leading actresses in Telugu cinema. She later starred in several successful films such as Okkadu (2003), Simhadri (2003), and Jai Chiranjeeva (2005). In Bollywood, she is most remembered for her role as Nirjara in Tere Naam (2003) opposite Salman Khan, a performance that earned her widespread recognition and critical acclaim. Bhumika also appeared in Tamil hits like Badri (2001) and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (2006), and has acted in Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, and Kannada films, showcasing her versatility across languages.
Coming from a Punjabi Hindu family, her father was a retired army officer, and she has two siblings. In 2007, she married yoga guru Bharath Thakur, and the couple has a son. Over the years, Bhumika has balanced her acting career with family life, occasionally returning to films and web series, including Middle Class Abbayi (2017) and Bhram (2019). Known for her graceful screen presence and emotive performances, she remains a respected figure in Indian cinema with a career spanning more than two decades.
