Narain
Facts
Narain’s real name is Sunil Kumar, but he adopted the stage name “Narain” when he entered films.
He was born in Kolkata, though his family roots are in Kerala, and he grew up in Thrissur.
Before acting, Narain trained in cinematography at the MGR Government Film and Television Institute in Chennai.
His first film was Nizhalkuthu (2002), directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, which was an art-house project rather than a commercial film.
Narain’s breakthrough role in 4 the People (2004) made him instantly popular among youth audiences, especially for its theme of vigilante justice.
He has acted in multiple languages—Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu—making him one of the few actors to balance careers across industries.
Narain is known for collaborating with director Mysskin in Tamil cinema, starting with Chithiram Pesuthadi (2006).
Despite his fame, Narain has maintained a relatively low-profile personal life, focusing more on his craft than publicity.
He married Manju Haridas, a television host and singer, in 2007, and they have two children.
Narain is admired for his ability to portray both intense action roles and sensitive, emotional characters with equal conviction.
