Biography
Neena Gupta is a celebrated Indian actress and television director known for her versatile performances in Hindi cinema and television. Born on June 4, 1959, in Kolkata, India, she pursued her education at Delhi University before enrolling at the National School of Drama, where she honed her acting skills. Over the years, she has built a remarkable career, earning accolades for her work in both commercial and art-house films.
Gupta made her film debut in Saath Saath (1982) and gained international recognition with her role in Gandhi (1982). She went on to appear in critically acclaimed films such as Mandi (1983), Rihaee (1988), and Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1992). Her performance in Woh Chokri (1994) won her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. After a brief lull in her career, she made a strong comeback with Badhaai Ho (2018), where she played a middle-aged pregnant woman, earning widespread praise and a Filmfare Award.
Apart from films, Neena Gupta has been a prominent figure in Indian television. She starred in the popular drama series Saans (1999), which she also directed, and hosted the quiz show Kamzor Kadii Kaun. In 2021, she released her autobiography Sach Kahun Toh, sharing insights into her personal and professional journey.
