Selena Gomez is facing a legal battle after investors in her mental-health startup Wondermind accused her and her co-founders of misleading them about the company’s prospects and operations. A lawsuit filed in federal court in Delaware alleges that investors put nearly $1.2 million into the venture based on representations about Gomez’s involvement, planned initiatives and the company’s potential for growth.
Wondermind was launched in 2021 by Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and entrepreneur Daniella Pierson as a platform focused on “mental fitness.” The company attracted significant attention because of Gomez’s celebrity profile and its ambition to make mental-health resources more accessible.
According to the lawsuit, investors were led to believe that Gomez would play an active role in building and marketing the company. The plaintiffs allege that promised projects, including a mobile application and revenue-generating initiatives, did not materialize. They also claim that partnerships presented during the fundraising process were not delivered.
The investors further allege that Wondermind’s financial and operational difficulties were not properly disclosed. According to the complaint, they only became aware of the extent of the company's problems after a September 2025 report detailed turmoil within the startup. The lawsuit claims the business had struggled with issues including unpaid employees and vendors and deteriorating operations.
The case also includes allegations involving the company's leadership and communication with investors. Plaintiffs say they sought to recover their investments after learning about Wondermind's condition but claim their requests were not resolved. They are seeking repayment, damages and legal fees.
Gomez's involvement is a major focus of the lawsuit. The plaintiffs allege that she agreed to certain responsibilities as the company's marketing leader but failed to fulfill those obligations. However, these are allegations contained in a lawsuit and have not been established as facts in court. Gomez has not publicly responded to the allegations, according to Reuters.
Wondermind had initially generated substantial investor interest. In 2022, the company raised $5 million at a reported $100 million valuation, with Serena Ventures among the investors. The startup subsequently faced financial difficulties and struggled to secure further funding.
The lawsuit now places renewed attention on the risks faced by celebrity-backed startups, particularly when a famous founder's public profile forms an important part of the company's fundraising strategy.
