The date was strategically chosen to coincide with the actor’s 51st birthday, promising a grand festive opening for fans. However, the makers have now postponed the film to the lucrative Independence Day weekend in August, eyeing a prime extended holiday window.
The decision, while surprising to trade circles, appears to be a calculated strategic move rather than a sign of creative trouble. The primary reason cited is the unprecedented box office dominance of Karuppu, which blasted onto screens on May 14 and continues its sensational run. Sources indicate that with Karuppu still commanding massive footfalls and screen counts, releasing another high-octane Suriya starrer just 71 days later would have created unnecessary competition and cannibalized collections.
By shifting to August, the team ensures a healthy “cooling time” for audiences, allowing Vishwanath & Sons to arrive as the next grand feast after the dust settles on Karuppu’s historic run.
The Role: A Champion’s Redemption
In Vishwanath & Sons, Suriya plays Sanjay Vishwanath, a compelling character described as a 40-year-old former international pistol-shooting champion attempting a turbulent comeback. The film is expected to explore themes of age, regret, family legacy, and the psychological battle of reclaiming lost glory. Suriya is reportedly undergoing specialized training to accurately portray the poise and intensity of a competitive marksman.
