Yash’s Toxic Cleared by CBFC With A-Rating and No Cuts: Internet Reacts to Spider-Man Comparison
Yash’s much-awaited Kannada film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has received its certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing a major hurdle ahead of its theatrical release. The film has been awarded an A certificate, meaning it is restricted to adult audiences. Interestingly, the CBFC has not ordered any cuts to the film, a development that has surprised and amused many people online.
According to the CBFC's official certification record, Toxic was certified on August 13, 2026, by the Bengaluru regional office. The certificate lists the film as a Kannada-language production and records a certified length of around 194.12 metres. The official plot summary describes it as a gangster story set in post-independence Goa, exploring loyalty, morality, violence, jealousy, love and personal redemption.
While reports initially described the film as receiving an A certificate with no cuts, the certification process did involve two minor changes, according to reports. These changes did not involve cutting scenes from the film. The decision has generated considerable discussion because Toxic has been promoted as a dark and violent adult drama, with its action, mature themes and controversial visuals already attracting attention.
The online reaction has been particularly interesting because of recent discussions surrounding censorship of international films. Social media users have drawn comparisons with the Spider-Man franchise, joking that the CBFC appears to be more concerned about kissing scenes in some Hollywood films than the intense violence and mature content found in Indian action movies. The comments are largely being shared as humorous reactions to what users perceive as differences in censorship standards.
The discussion has also been fuelled by Yash's recent comments about the controversy surrounding Toxic. The actor previously addressed criticism over alleged intimate and vulgar content, saying that he had not even kissed on screen and explaining his perspective on how such scenes should be presented.
Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas, stars Yash in the lead role alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film is expected to present Yash in a darker gangster avatar, combining intense action with themes of morality, relationships and redemption.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on August 26, 2026. With the CBFC certification now complete, attention has shifted towards the film's opening-day response and box-office prospects. The A rating also clearly signals that Toxic is intended for mature audiences.
